Ok, raise of hands, how many of you shut your bedroom door or hope no one looks in there when guests stop by? I imagine all of us are guilty of a messy room at some point in our lives. The fact of the matter is, that is where we get dressed and sleep, so who’s going to know if you just throw your clothing in a pile after a hard day of work. Maybe it’s not your room that needs to be kept cleaner. Maybe it’s those pesky kids of yours who you’re constantly yelling at to keep their rooms clean. Either way, it’s time to take a day and get that bedroom clean again. And we’re going to help! Ok, maybe not by coming over there and helping you clean! But instead by providing you with tips and tricks! Let’s begin….
First things first – general clean up!
Start the task by going through and putting away anything that may be laying out on your dressers or your floor. While you’re doing this, if it’s a beautiful day, open your window and let the fresh air in!
Next up – Bed!
When was the last time you cleaned your sheets? Strip the bed and clean them today. It’s a good idea to wash them at least once a month. While you’re bedding is being washed, clean the mattress. Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda on it to absorb the odors. Let it sit for a few hours and then vacuum it off. If you have a headboard, wipe it down to get all of the dust off.
While we’re talking about dusting – that’s next!
Go around and dust off your night stands and dressers. Oh, and don’t forget your ceiling fans, ceiling lights and fixtures. Dust will collect on them and should be cleaned regularly. If you have any mirrors in your bedroom, clean them and don’t stop there; clean the windows too!
Now the fun part – organizing!
This is not a task that you need to do every time you clean, but I would recommend doing it once a season. Start with your closet. Sort through your clothing and shoes. If you haven’t worn something in the past 6 months and if you don’t foresee wearing it in the next 6 months, put it on the donate pile (or trash pile if it’s not something that can be donated.) Move onto your dressers and do the same thing. Lastly, go through your night stands! Most of us just throw things into our night stands when we might be doing a quick clean up and never clean it out. Now is your chance!
Last thing – vacuuming!
Now that you have gone through everything and dusted everything, one last task is at hand – time to vacuum.
Just like that, you’re done! Now, kick up your feet and enjoy a glass of wine! The more often you clean your bedroom the less time it will take each time. Make it a point to do a quick clean once a week and a full clean once a month. Until next month – Happy Cleaning!
