Let’s be honest, everyone wishes they were more organized. Many of you probably go to start the process, see how much work it entails, and decide you’ll start another day. Well, we want to help you get started on organizing! Below are a few professional tips to help you get that clutter-free dream home.
Create Rules: Whatever area of the house you’re going through, create rules to help you decide if you’re going to keep it or discard it. For example, for your closet, only save specific sizes. If it’s stained get rid of it, or if you haven’t worn the item in well over 6 months and you don’t see yourself wearing it again in the next 6 months, it’s not worth the space it’s taking up.
Paperwork: Not every piece of paper or magazine that comes into your house has to be saved. If there is no reason for you to save a magazine or newspaper, toss it. For financial paperwork, check out this article to find out how long you should keep it. Keep in mind, it will take longer to go through those personal files, but once you do and you have everything organized, you’ll be thankful when it comes time to look for something.
Don’t create more clutter: Before you run out and buy baskets and bins, go through your stuff and find out what you need. If you just jump ahead, you may find out that those bins or baskets you bought aren’t going to work and you’re just back to square one with having more clutter.
Get rid of things: As you go room by room decluttering, immediately take the action to get rid of what you don’t want. If you’re throwing it away, put it in a garbage bag and out to the trash can. If you’re selling it, keep it in separate bins in your garage or basement. Only keep a sell pile if you’re going to actually sell it. If you’re donating it, put it in your car and once you’re finished for the day, take it to wherever you’re donating it.
Now that your home is decluttered, we just wanted to give you a few other tips to help keep your home clutter free!
Watch out for drop zones: Flat areas such as tables and counters are a great place to just unload your clutter. Well, today is the day you stop that! Set your table up with a centerpiece or place mats. This will help you from putting clutter there.
Don’t procrastinate: Are you someone who will work on a project and not put what you were using away, right away? Stop that! Taking a few minutes to put away whatever it is you’re using will only make you happier, because you are reducing the clutter in your home! When it comes to dishes, when you use a dish, wash it, or immediately put it in the dishwasher. Remember, a clean sink is a happy sink!
Now is the time to go and start organizing! Once you’re finished, treat yourself to a glass of your favorite wine! And as always – Happy Cleaning!
