As one of the most used rooms in the house, your family room needs special care to keep it from becoming an embarrassment when guests arrive. But don’t worry! Follow this list of simple things you can do to make your family room presentable.
- Tidy up – Before you do a deep clean, make sure your family room is free of extra stuff that doesn’t belong there or is out of place. Go through and find any clothes, toys, or frequently used objects and move them to where they belong. Fixing pillows and blankets or updating your decorations can help make your family room look much neater. You can even ask your family members to help so the task is completed faster! If there are far too many things to handle efficiently, put everything in a box or bin to sort later.
- Wipe things down – Clean windows, tables, and other flat surfaces that could get dusty. Be sure to watch for streaks or difficult smudges that may not go away the first time. To help with streaks, wipe the inside of your windows in one direction and the outside in the perpendicular direction so you can tell with side still has streaks.
- Vacuum – Vacuum the floor, furniture, and curtains to remove dust and dirt. If you have the muscle, move furniture around in order to reach all parts of the carpet. Dust accumulates in the strangest places, so don’t skip anything!
- Sort – If you have things left over from tidying up, get that box or bin back out. Put those things where they belong or store away what is not necessary. Sorting these extra things now will help lighten the load for future big cleans.
- Other – Take things out that need to be professionally cleaned and replace them temporarily if possible. Always double check the room for missed spots or a mess made while you cleaned before finishing the room off with a quick spray of air freshener.
