With Christmas comes decorating! Most likely you have already set up most of your decorations, but have you decorated safely? With all of the decorations and lights hanging everywhere it can be a huge fire hazard, so watch out for these things to have a safe holiday season.
Plants – Watch out for those pretty holiday plants! Some might be poisonous for pets to ingest and could cause them a stomachache and you a headache.
Check your lights – Always make sure you are using safe lights by checking the box they come in. Lights you plan on using outdoors must be outdoor safe as well, and all lights should be checked for fraying wires or faulty bulbs. And even though they look beautiful, your Christmas lights and candles need to be turned off and put out when you sleep or are out of the house. If left unsupervised, they could end up causing a fire.
Trees – For live trees, they need to be kept hydrated and kept away from heat so they are less likely to catch fire. Fake trees can be fire resistant, so make sure you check the box when you buy.
Ornaments – If you use any edible or fragile ornaments, keep them near the top of the tree so children and pets cannot get to them easily.
Wrapping paper – Yes, it may be burnable paper and it is a pain to deal with after the presents are open, but throwing wrapping paper into the fire can cause the fire to flash and risks starting an uncontrolled fire.
With these great safety tips, you are bound to have a worry-free holiday season!
