The cold weather is finally warming up to spring, which means that it’s time for spring cleaning! After a long, cold winter, cleaning your home may seem daunting, unless you take the cleaning bit by bit. Do some organizing to start off with, and then work on tougher jobs later on.
Find problem areas – The first step to a cleaner home is to organize those spots in the house that refuse to stay neat.
Tidy up medicine supplies – This may seem odd, but your medicine cabinet needs to be updated to avoid keeping around useless or dangerous medicine. Check expiration dates and doses, and if there is not enough medicine for a dose or the expiration date has passed, toss it. Expired medicine may lose effectiveness or will become dangerous for use.
Update your wardrobe – Once the warmer weather of spring appears, there is little need for your heavy winter clothes. Sort through your clothes and store away all of your winter wear to make room for light spring clothes. If you no longer want some of your clothes, try to sell them or donate them. If you do store them, make sure your clothes are safely put away and make sure to check on them to ensure that they do not gain mold or bugs.
Clean up shelves –Make sure you dust, wipe down, and organize the books, knick-knacks, or photos you may have on your shelves. Store away things you no longer want on your shelves, or toss or donate them if you see no point in keeping them.
Tidy up used rooms – Mainly bedrooms. Check every corner of your bedroom for anything you no longer need or use. If you have children, make sure they sort through their own room and set aside toys they no longer play with.
Get rid of what’s unwanted – Once you’ve organized everything, throw out, donate, or sell anything that didn’t make it to the keep pile. Donating or selling would be best because donating could give somebody else something they may need but cannot afford, and having a garage sale may bring in some extra cash!
